Information
We welcome children into Shotley Kidzone from 12 months old, we have two rooms to accommodate the children. We believe that this enables children to settle in at their own pace, exploring their surroundings and becoming familiar with the staff and their peers. We provide a fun and stimulating environment for children, encouraging them to explore a wide range of opportunities.

We offer a wide range of experiences that are relevant, imaginative, creative and challenging through the nursery day and carefully planned activities to stimulate and encourage their development.

The Key Persons role is to further establish secure relationships with children and families responding to children's interests in supporting their learning and development and sharing information about the children with their families. They will support your child to settle in at their own pace, getting to know other children and the staff. We value the opportunity for you to tell us about your child and their needs.

Early years foundation stage (EYFS)

Shotley Kidzone follows the Early Years Foundation Stage. Which sets out the legal welfare requirements that all registered child carers must follow to keep your child safe and promote their welfare.

Your child will have a key person who will plan for their needs and interests and support your child throughout their time at Shotley Kidzone, along with all the team who are there support all individual children and their families.

At Shotey Kidzone, we support working together with parents and carers to enable all the children to develop where possible. Find below a few suggestion....

Ideas to support Communication, Language and Literacy at home:

  • Looking at print in the environment – from road signs to shampoo bottles. Your child can then see that print is purposeful and conveys meaning.
  • Looking at books together; including non-fiction books about topics that interest your child. If they are ready, encourage your child to ‘read’ the story – encouraging them to tell you what is happening from the pictures.
  • Make a book together: Take photographs and make a scrap book of a special event or holiday. You could also make an alphabet scrap book

Ideas to support Mathematics at home:

  • Singing number rhymes such as Five Currant Buns, Five Little Ducks or Ten Green Bottles
  • Solving problems - How many cups of water to fill the teapot
  • 'Talk Maths'. Use mathematical language such as more/less in everyday tasks
  • Measuring out ingredients for cooking
  • Helping with the shopping
  • Water play at bath time - filling and emptying a range of containers

What could you do at home to help promote creativity?

  • Collect natural materials to make pictures and collages.
  • Mix cornflour and a small quantity of water to make ‘gloop’
  • Play a variety of music types and dance
  • Make instruments out of household utensils and make some noise!
